The Medical Treatments Act (WGBO) and the Personal Data Protection Act (WBP) describe your rights and duties with regard to your patient records.
They also stipulate how hospital staff are required to use your personal data. As a patient, you are entitled to protection of your personal data. This means that only those involved in the scientific research in which you are participating may access your records. They must also observe strict confidentiality in this regard. The rules for medical research relating to human subjects are recorded in the Medical Research (Human Subjects) Act (WMO). Research conducted pursuant to the WMO is assessed by Medical Ethics Committees (MECs). The R.O.I. undertakes to comply with all legislation and regulations relating to medical research with human subjects. More information is available at Trial participants.
